The Arena at intu Braehead has just launched Wee Ones Wednesday, where children and their parents or carers get exclusive access to the ice rink for some fun and instruction from qualified coaches. The sessions take place every Wednesday from 1pm to 2pm and are aimed at encouraging children between the ages of two and five years of age to try skating along with an adult.

As well as the children getting help from experienced skating coaches, the grown ups will also be given hints and tips on how to skate and move around the ice.
And there will be plastic balls, cones and a multi-coloured parachute that will be used for fun and games on the ice.

Ice skates are available to hire as part of the £8.50p cost of an adult and toddler taking to the ice for the Wee Ones Wednesday session.

Lauren Little, arena operations manager and an accomplished competitive figure skater said: “You’re never too young to get your skates on.

“Taking to the ice at an early age helps to build a child’s confidence and develop their coordination and motor skills.

“We aim to make these sessions lots of fun for both the toddler and the adult who has come on the ice with them. And everyone will feel comfortable on the ice as there won’t be other more experienced skaters whizzing round the ice at the same time.” Lauren added: “And who knows if one of the toddlers coming along to our Wee Ones Wednesday sessions will end up skating for Britain in the Winter Olympics, featuring in one of the Disney on Ice shows we have at intu Braehead, or even appearing on TV in a future series of Dancing on Ice!”
