As part of Make It Matter Day (1 June), Marks and Spencer has committed to support M&S colleagues in delivering one million hours of community volunteering by 2025, to help to make a difference to the projects and initiatives that really matter in the community it serves.

M&S will kick start the volunteering in Howwood during National Volunteers Week (1-10 June) by tending to the gardens in St Vincent’s Hospice and introducing a seating area that will provide a pleasant environment for all patients.

Nationwide, employees in every M&S store will join their colleagues in Howwood by helping to transform local projects that make a real difference.  In total, over 50,000 colleagues will support more than 500 community projects across the breadth of the UK.  Make It Matter is part of the recently launched M&S campaign, ‘#SpenditWell’, which is about inspiring people to make every moment special by focusing on the experiences, people and things that really matter in life.

Scott Munro, Store Manager of M&S Braehead: “We’re really excited to be coming together to support St Vincent’s Hospice.  Volunteering can make a profound difference to the communities in which we live, work and play – we believe that lots of the small actions from lots of people, can collectively have a huge impact.  We can’t wait to get started.”

Kate Lennon, Chief Excutive of St Vincent’s Hospice: “From start to finish on a very wet day, we cannot thank the M&S volunteer enough for all their hard work and dedication to the hospice. The garden is looking amazing – just in time for our Volunteer long service awards which will be held next week in the grounds of St Vincent’s Hospice.”
