Cocoa Farmers’ Children Visit Paisley – Come and meet them!

Saturday 1st of October signals the start of Black History Month and to kick it off Rainbow Turtle, Paisley’s Fair Trade organisation, will be teaming up with Redss Catering – along with Divine and London-based organisation Trading Visions – by hosting a visit from two young people from Ghana. As the children of cocoa farmers, Esther and Samuel will talk about what life’s like for them at home, at school and for their families who work for the Kuapa Kokoo co-operative which co-owns Divine chocolate. It will be a great opportunity to learn not only how the chocolate we love begins its life, but how supporting fair and ethical trading changes lives for the better. Being able to welcome Esther and Samuel to Paisley will be a real honour and reminds us all how connected we are to others around the world through the things we buy and enjoy every day.

Samuel and Esther will be at the end of a whirlwind tour of the UK taking in London, Edinburgh, Cornwall, Liverpool and finally Paisley. With the town well and truly geared up for its 2021 bid for City Of Culture the teenagers’ visit will be a great opportunity to strengthen links with different parts of the world.

As well as hearing from the teenagers, there will be live music, activities for children and of course CHOCOLATE! Ken Clark and Margaret Jones from Redss, who have been long term supporters of Fair Trade since 2002 when they started trading in Paisley, will be at the event with their friendly team handing out delicious, FREE cake pops, cup cakes and Fairtrade fruit all made or covered with Divine’s delicious Fairtrade chocolate. With local schools, groups and Fairtrade supporters coming along to welcome Esther & Samuel it promises to be a sweet event!

Open to everyone, the event runs from 10am – 12pm on Saturday 1st October, in the Methodist Church Hall on Gauze Street, Paisley, opposite the Abbey and next door to the Rainbow Turtle shop. For more information visit www.rainbowturtle.org.uk or find them on Twitter & Facebook @rainbowturtleuk.
