The by-election will take place on Thursday 11 August following the death of Councillor Eddie Grady, one of three councillors for the multi-member ward of Renfrew South and Gallowhill on Renfrewshire Council.

Sandra Black, returning officer for the by-election, said: “Any new applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by midnight on Monday 25 July. I’d urge all residents of Renfrew South and Gallowhill ward not to leave it too late – if you’re unsure about your registration, check in plenty of time and make sure you can use your vote on 11 August.”

“There are also options to vote by post and by proxy, but again these have deadlines for registration ahead of the by-election so I’d ask all voters to contact the Electoral Registration Officer in plenty of time.”

“I would also remind 16 and 17-year-olds living in the ward area that they are eligible to vote in this by-election and should also make sure they are registered.”

Anyone seeking to register to vote can do so online at  www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Residents can also contact the Electoral Registration Officer on 0300 300 0150 for more information.
