After a long-running battle with leukaemia Depute Head Teacher, Liam Cullen, has now been told by doctors that he will be unable to return to his job at Renfrew High School, prompting staff to give him a special retirement gift.

Billy Burke, Head Teacher, said, “Liam is an outstanding person and has been an asset to education in Renfrewshire for many years. He is a hugely popular member of our school community with staff, pupils and parents alike.

“It is a huge disappointment to learn that Liam won’t be able to return to the school as he continues his fight to regain his health. His contribution to Renfrew High has been significant. A number of staff at the school have decided to mark his retirement in a very special way, by raising money for Liam by running in the Glasgow Men’s 10k Race on 19th June.

“We have set up a Just Giving page at  https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/RHS-TeamCullen so that current and past staff, pupils and parents alike can support Liam, who has shown great resilience and positivity in his battle with this devastating illness. We set a target of £1,000 and have already more than doubled this. We are hugely grateful to everyone for the support. One of our core values as a school is ‘care’ and people across this excellent community have demonstrated this in spades.”
