Chivas Brothers’ 1,600 employees will dedicate up to 9,600 hours to causes on Thursday 2nd June by undertaking activities to support and develop their local communities. A number of events are due to take place near the company’s sites in Scotland and London as part of the day which aims to create or renew convivial spaces for residents.

Dozens of green-fingered employees based at the company’s site in Paisley will help to spruce up Gleniffer Braes, a picturesque park area offering views across the town and the lower Clyde Valley across to Ben Lomond. As part of the project, employees will undertake work to repair a bridge and improve footpaths to enhance access for visitors.

Another team will join forces with Gallowhill Primary School in Netherhill Road to create an allotment enabling them to grow their own fresh fruit and vegetables. The playground area will also be given a makeover as part of the project and volunteers will help to construct raised compost beds and a pathway made out of bark.

Neil McDonagh, Bottling Operations Manager at Chivas Brothers’ is part of the volunteer group helping to regenerate Gleniffer Braes.

He said: “It’s great to be able to team up with my colleagues and do something good for our community. A lot of us visit Gleniffer Braes regularly so we really wanted to help make it a more enjoyable place by enhancing some of its features.

“I’m really proud to be part of Chivas Brothers’ Responsib’ALL Day. It’s a rewarding project which enables us to make a real difference in our local community.”

Councillor Eddie Devine, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Environment Policy Board, said: “We are delighted to have the support of Chivas Brothers for the work being done at Gallowhill Primary School and Gleniffer Braes Country Park. The school allotment will be a great asset for local children and the improvements to the park will be appreciated by the many local residents who visit Gleniffer Braes to walk their dogs or spend time with their family. Renfrewshire Council is grateful to the Chivas Brothers’ team for their collective effort.”

Investing in local communities is just one of Chivas Brothers’ commitments, along with promoting responsible drinking, protecting the planet and empowering its people. Throughout the year employees are also encouraged to participate in Chivas Spirit of Support (Chivas SOS) – a staff inspired community scheme that offers all employees an opportunity to volunteer in local communities.
