Mr Mackay was re-elected with a hugely increased majority of 7,373, pushing Labour into third place in the constituency vote. A total of 14,718 voted for the SNP politician, 48% of the votes cast.

 Commenting Mr Mackay said:

“It was a great honour to be re-elected as the MSP for the constituency I have lived in all my life. The voters of this constituency have placed a great trust in me, and I am determined to work hard to represent all of them, regardless of who they voted for.

“My constituency office is well established and is now open for business again following the election. In the last Parliament, I dealt with over 4,500 constituency cases, and we are here ready to help with any issue my constituents feel they need assistance with.

“Over the election campaign my team and I spoke to 9,007 residents from across Renfrewshire North & West. A number of local issues were raised with me, and I now intend to take these matters forward on behalf of my constituents. These issues included local road conditions, street cleaning, traffic management and planned changes to amenity sites. All of these are are of course the responsibility of Labour run Renfrewshire Council, however, I know just how strongly my constituents feel about these issues and it is my duty to stand up for them.”
