Last Saturday, Paisley & District Scouts held their annual charity duck race. This year’s event was raising funds for the Brightest Star and local Scouting.

Despite the initial rocky weather, the event went ahead with a roaring success. Residents from across Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire came to listen to the wonderful performances organised by the McCallum School of Music, support our community stalls and indeed try food from our very own cook team.

This year’s duck race was opened by Paisley legend Tony Fitzpatrick who as always delivered a passionate speech on Scouting and indeed the Brightest Star which is close to his heart.

The corporate duck race winner is the Paisley Natural Therapy Centre who will enjoy a team-building day up at Lapwing Lodge Outdoor Centre.

The main winners of the community duck race can be found on the Scouts facebook page.

Commenting on the day, District Commissioner, Rob Murray said:
“This years charity duck race was a great success and I want to start by thanking all those who bought a corporate duck or indeed a duck for the community race. Your generosity has once again inspired us.

“There are too many people to thank but a special thanks must go to Stuart Duncan who is the master mind behind the event, Brian Irvine, John Hunter, Brian Kerr, Kenny McLaughlan, Fiona Stewart, Katy McClement, Jeanette Savage and Angela McCallum. They have given up hours of their time to ensure the event went without any problems.

“Scouting provides life changing adventure to girls and boys across Paisley, Barrhead & Neilston. At the heart of Scouting is giving something back to our local community. This year on top of the large amount of smaller community projects we are pleased to support the wonderful work of the Brightest Star.
