Gavin Newlands, the MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, has congratulated the ‘Ralston Community Sports Centre – Keep It Open’ campaign on successfully pressuring Renfrewshire Leisure to suspend all changes and cuts until further notice.

After Renfrewshire Leisure’s cuts to Ralston Community Sports Centre were announced, Gavin Newlands MP attended Ralston Community Council and the ‘Keep It Open’ public meeting to speak to the local community and hear their views. The Renfrewshire MP called on “Renfrewshire Council to reconsider their decision to cut services at Ralston Community Sports Centre and to enter into consultation with the community council and the wider community to reach a decision that is fair for local people”.

On 31st March 2016, the ‘Keep It Open’ campaign have reported that “all changes and cuts are suspended until further notice while Renfrewshire Leisure works with the [Ralston] Community Council on new proposals to make the sports centre viable”.

Gavin Newlands, the MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said:

“After attending Ralston Community Council and the ‘Keep It Open’ public meeting, I could see the groundswell of public opinion against these cuts first-hand and I was keen to support my constituents in any way that I possibly could.

“I am delighted that the ‘Keep It Open’ campaign have successfully pressured Renfrewshire Leisure into suspending these cuts and that the long overdue consultation with the Ralston community will now finally take place.”
