FOLLOWING a better than it sounds 0-0 shut-out between Saints and Falkirk the two managers had their say, and couldn’t have been more poles apart in their summations.
Saints manager, Alex Rae said: “We should have won the game, but it was pleasing to get another clean-sheet following the three wins here on the bounce. We could have been three up at the break quite easily.
“The goal David Clarkson had ruled out will be interesting to see again. You can usually tell by the reaction of the scorer as normally they glance over at the linesman if they think it was, I don’t think David looked over.
“It would have been nice to have had a summer with these players to work on formations, but you can see the players are all pulling in the same direction and playing for each other. They are enjoying being at the training ground and I am enjoying my time here so far.
“Clean-sheets are great as they give you a platform. The work rate of the players has been tremendous and I couldn’t ask for anything more in this regard.”
The big taking point was the 42nd minute penalty shout which left David Clarkson dumped to the turf inside the area. Rae had little doubt; “It was a stonewall penalty, absolutely stonewall.
“It was a clear penalty, but we say this every week and nothing ever gets done. Nothing changes.”
In stark contrast Falkirk manager, Peter Houston, didn’t seem to know which incident he was being asked about when asked for his thoughts after the game. He said; “Which penalty incident? Who for?
“I didn’t see anything I thought was anything like a penalty. StnMirren players seemed to be going down easily and were looking to influence the referee and I feel some of the bookings we got were harsh. It was never a penalty in my view.
“Overall a draw was a fair result as both teams had chances.”
