Eddie Blyth – 1924-2016
It is with great regret that we have learned that former St Mirren player Eddie Blyth passed away last Friday aged 91.
Eddie played with Junior side Yoker Athletic and then Queen’s Park before being called up for military service during World War Two.
After being demobbed in 1945, Eddie returned to Queen’s Park but four years later Bobby Rankin signed him for St Mirren where he would go on to make 112 appearances before leaving at the end of season 1954/55.
Eddie hung up his boots shortly after leaving Saints and ran a Pharmacy in Renfrew.
The St Mirren legacy stayed with Eddie’s family as his sons and grandchildren still regularly come along to the Paisley 2021 Stadium to back Saints.
Eddie’s funeral will take place at 3:00pm on Monday 14th March at Woodside Crematorium.
All at the club would like to pass on their condolences to Eddie’s family and friends at this sad time.
