Preview: St Mirren v Falkirk

by Ryan Goodwin

St Mirren will be able to yet again challenge their recent strong performances when third-place Falkirk come to Paisley tomorrow night.

Following a strong performance against Rangers at Ibrox – where the Buddies were unlucky not to get something from the game – St Mirren must continue their playoff push against another team who are challenging for promotion opportunities.

Falkirk have been undoubtedly one of the strongest sides in the Championship this season, currently in third spot 18 points ahead of Raith Rovers. However, due to also being 13 points behind Rangers, it is beginning to look that the Bairns and Hibs are battling for the runners’ up spot.

The Bairns’ only loss in the last ten league games has been a 1-0 loss to Rangers at Ibrox. In that time, they have also managed six victories including a 2-1 victory over the Gers.

Buddies fans may also remember the last time Falkirk were in town. Having been 2-0 down to the Saints at half-time, The Bairns were able to dig deep and, with an excellent display of character, went on to collect all three points in the second-half.

However, one might say that was a completely different St Mirren side back then. Since then, Alex Rae and David Farrell have taken over and completely revitalised the squad. Now, with playoff spots becoming a realistic aim, the Buddies are on a mission to gain as many points as possible until the end of the season.

It is also worth noting that the Paisley 2021 Stadium hasn’t seen a Saints loss in three games now. A far-cry from the beginning of the season where St Mirren struggled to win a home game in Paisley.

Falkirk won’t underestimate St Mirren tomorrow night when they come to Paisley. There’s a lot of excitement now with recent performances and the team are looking up rather than down. That being said, Falkirk have consistently been strong this season and will provide a huge test for the Buddies tomorrow night.
