Development League: Inverness CT 1-3 St Mirren

The Under-20 side continued their winning form this afternoon coming from a goal down to win 3-1 against Inverness Caledonian Thistle in a SPFL Development League match-up at the Highland Football Academy.

The home side fielded a strong team with five first team players.  Saints gave Jim Goodwin a run-out as he continues his return from injury, getting a good hours-worth of play under his belt. Saints also gave starts to Under-17 keeper Reece Willison and Kyle McAllister who made his first team debut last Saturday.

Caley Thisle took an early lead as they caught Saints on the counter but St Mirren struck back before the break when Conor O’Keefe provided a terrific finish from outside the penalty-area to bring the game back to all-square again.

The second half was all St Mirren and it was no surprise when Jaison McGrath stretched the Buddies lead.  Shortly afterwards the points were sealed as Josh Beattie broke forward and fired home a great strike from the edge of the box to make it 3-1.

Saints had further chances to add to their lead, including two efforts coming off the woodwork but they done more than enough to put another 3 points on the board.

St Mirren: Willison, Morrison, Beattie, Harrison, Cuddihy, Goodwin, O’Keefe, McAllister, McGrath, Cameron, Flanagan.
Used Substitutes: Magennis, Pooler, Barclay.

David Longwell said after the match: “Conditions were really difficult and they were the worst we have played in for a while, but full credit to the boys as they dealt with the wind and rain really well to play some great stuff.

“The boys’ effort, desire and commitment were top class and the football they played at times was also of a high level. It was a great win and great performance.”
