People involved in cultural events and groups in Renfrewshire are being asked to take centre stage in a cultural conversation on Saturday 20 February.

The event – hosted by Paisley 2021 bid team and Creative Renfrewshire Network – is a chance for Renfrewshire’s cultural community to get together and exchange ideas on the area’s cultural scene.

It’s been held as part of the February’s 2021 weekend – on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 – which will showcase the variety of cultural events taking place in Paisley on a typical weekend.

And it’s the first of many public engagement sessions with the community on Paisley’s bid for UK City of Culture.

Chair of the Paisley City of Culture Partnership Board, Council Leader Mark Macmillan, has hailed the event as a great way for the cultural community to get involved in the bid.

He said: “Paisley’s bid for UK City of Culture 2021 is all about using culture as a vehicle for the town’s regeneration plans, and we want to get to know everyone involved in the town’s cultural scene.

“Paisley has a thriving grassroots cultural scene and we know that the cultural community have plenty of ideas about developing the town’s cultural offering, so we’re asking them to come along on Saturday 20 February and share their ideas.

“People will also be able to find out about the Paisley bid and how they can get involved and support it.”

Attendees will also have the chance to meet the Paisley 2021 bid team at Paisley Town Hall between 10am and 2pm. They will also be able to give their feedback on the draft Creative Renfrewshire strategy.

People can also find out more on how to apply for the £500k Culture, Events and Heritage Fund designed to support the local creative sector ahead of the bid, which is now open to applications.

People can also sign up to individual surgeries with the Paisley 2021 bid team between 12pm and 4pm on Sunday 21 February.
