Work started today ( Wednesday 20 January) on the£4million refurbishment of the existing Mossvale Primary School and Nursery and St James’ Primary School shared campus.

The work is part Renfrewshire Council’s maassive £52million investment programme to improve local schools.

The Mossvale and St James’ shared campus is being extended to allow the nursery class to be brought into the main building. The extra space will allow new classrooms and an additional PE space to be built. The dining room will be enlarged as well.

The refurbishment work will see all of the building’s internal systems being replaced including the wiring and heating. The pupils will also be able to enjoy a brighter environment as the building is being redecorated. New furniture will complete the internal transformation. The school grounds will be landscaped and this work will include facilities for outdoor learning.

The council’s vision is to promote learning and achievement by giving children and young people the best possible school environment.

Councillor Jacqueline Henry, Convener of the council’s Education and Children Policy Board, said: “The Mossvale Primary School & Nursery and St James’ Primary School shared campus is being transformed inside and out. The proposed outdoor facilities will open up a whole new learning experience for the pupils. They will also help the children develop the decision-making skills which are important for staying safe in unfamiliar environments.

“There is a great deal of work involved in completely refurbishing a school and we will be working with parents and staff to keep disruption to a minimum.”
