is a collaboration between sister cities Dunedin and Edinburgh – made possible with support from the British Council New Zealand, British Council Scotland, the Dunedin City Council and Creative Scotland.

Founded as a Scottish settlement in 1848 and named after Edinburgh’s original Gaelic name Dùn Èideann Dunedin city in New Zealand shares much of its architecture and history with its namesake and is regarded as NZ’s indie music capital.

Hailing from Dunedin, Robert Scott and Jay Clarkson will join Edinburgh musicians Withered Hand (Dan Willson), Craig Lithgow (Emelle), Kevin Williamson, Dean Owens and Hailey Beavis to present a collaborative night of song and verse reflective of the links and indie scenes that exist between countries – once more, reconnecting the tartan ties between these two sister cities!
Five of the artists have recently performed together at the St Andrews Day celebrations in Dunedin and the Scottish leg of the tour will see them build on relationships and ideas forged during their time together in NZ.

Robert Scott is a guitarist, singer and songwriter and member of indie New Zealand rock bands The Bats and The Clean.

He also performs solo, in several genres, including alternative rock, experimental instrumentals, and traditional folk music and is an accomplished artist – designing many album sleeves for the iconic Flying Nun recording label.

Joining Scott to represent NZ is composer, guitarist, vocalist, recording artist, poet and writer Jay Clarkson.  Clarkson was a founding member of ‘80s underground punk collective The Playthings and went on to perform with They Were Expendable, The Expendables, Breathing Cage and The Matches.  She has released eight albums, published three pieces of literature, four pieces for Classical Guitar and has performed her poetry in the USA.

Representing Scotland is poet, author, publisher and activist Kevin Williamson, talented musical master Craig Lithgow (Emelle) and lyrical genius singer-songwriter Dan Willson performing under the name Withered Hand.

Along with recent recruits for this current Scottish leg of the project is Dean Owens – one of Scotland’s finest singer songwriters, with fans including Irvine Welsh and Russell Brand – and Hailey Beavis who has supported acts such as Nick Cave and the Proclaimers.
