Paisley Pirates are in action this weekend as they travel to Kirkcaldy to take on the local Kestrels in a league match on Sunday evening, the fixture replacing their Scottish Cup Quarter Final match which will now go ahead at the same venue two weeks later.

“Kirkcaldy are the current Scottish National League champions, we beat them 6-4 in a very tight game at Braehead a couple of weeks ago, their rink is a notoriously hard one to come away from with a win, and they’ll be keen to teach us a lesson after beating them recently, so it all looks like adding up to a tough night for us,” said Coach Ian Turley. “However, these are the kind of games you have to come through to win any silverware, and the win we achieved was reached by a lot of very hard work, so that’s the message I’ll be reinforcing to the players this week. Work hard, play as you can, as if we don’t, we won’t get anything out of the competition.”

He went on, “While our home form has been great so far this season, with four wins out of four against very good opposition in every match, our away form has been less so in the league. We started well enough with two wins at Kilmarnock and a victory at North Ayr, all in cup competitions, but we’ve only got one point out of a possible four in away matches in the SNL, and nobody needs to tell me that kind of record has to improve, and very quickly, if we want to nurture any hopes of winning the League this year. Edinburgh are currently sitting with a 100% record in that competition, so effectively we’ve already given them three points of a start. A win at Kirkcaldy on Sunday would certainly send out a very clear message to everyone else in the league, as it would also be a double over the League champions, so that’s what we have to aim for.”

Face off is at 6.45pm.
