Hundreds of Renfrewshire residents enjoyed a community event with a difference at Paisley Town Hall this week.

Visitors to the Renfrewshire Council’s Your Home, Your Street, Our Community event walked through a series of model home, garden and street exhibits, receiving expert information and advice on their journey.

The event was designed by Community Resources at Renfrewshire Council to showcase services whose aim is to make the area “safer, stronger and greener”.

Advisors from Police Scotland, Scottish Fire & Rescue and other public sector agencies joined council officers to speak with local residents about everything from internet safety to microchipping pet dogs.

Local business owners took an opportunity to walk down ‘Commerce Street’ and find out more about e-commerce, trading standards and more. And workshops with local school children explored various issues around staying safe.

Renfrewshire’s Provost Anne Hall opened the event and said: “At the council, we work every day with partners in community safety and public protection to make Renfrewshire safer, stronger and greener. That’s the message we wanted to get across with this event, and I think we did so in a very interesting and engaging way.

“We had almost 700 people brave the terrible weather on the day to visit us and I think that shows the appetite out there for information about services.

“Lots of agencies are dedicated to helping communities and businesses in Renfrewshire thrive. Everyone plays their part, and it was so encouraging to see them all represented and event and so keen to help local people.”
