Paisley Pirates go into this Sunday’s home league match against the Solway Sharks high on confidence after a convincing 9-1 win over Belfast Giants in their curtain raiser last Saturday.

“Yes, I was pleased with the win,” said coach Ian Turley. “I thought we played very well in places and could have scored more goals, but I have to be happy with a 9-1 win to get the home programme underway after a month on the road. Our new guys, Liam Riddell and Ciaran Quinn settled in well and, of course, we’ve got the prospect of more new signings in the shape of Scott Cowan and Fraser Campbell coming into the mix for this weekend.”

“Much has been made of our signing of Scott Cowan and yes, I’m delighted to have got him, as he’s a real quality player and will bring something extra to the squad. However, I’m equally pleased to have secured young Fraser. We continually tell people that we’re their local club, so signing and, hopefully, developing young local players like him reinforces that ethos.”

“We look forward now to our battle with the Sharks at the weekend, when we’re back to our usual schedule of home games on a Sunday at 6.00pm. We’re playing them again in a few weeks’ time home and away in the semi final of the Autumn Cup, so we’ll be seeing quite a lot of each other in the next month or so. We saw a number of new faces in the crowd at our game last week, so I hope they saw enough then to convince them that their £7 admission fee represents the very best value in entertainment in and around the Renfrewshire area!”
