Rehousing advice sessions for tenants in Johnstone Castle.

Tenants in Johnstone Castle who are affected by housing regeneration plans are being invited to a series of advice surgeries to discuss their rehousing options.

Six sessions will be held in Johnstone Castle Community Centre between Monday 22 September and Friday 10 October to give Renfrewshire Council tenants the opportunity to speak to housing officials directly about the plans to demolish 48 blocks of tenement flats and replace them with new houses.

Tenants affected will be offered suitable alternative housing as the regeneration programme gets underway. In order to make sure all tenants are offered suitable alternative accommodation the council needs to speak to all of those affected to get an up to date picture of their housing needs.

Letters have been sent directly to council tenants of the 288 properties marked for demolition inviting them to attend the surgeries.
The sessions have been arranged following months of consultation with tenants on the plans, which also include demolishing the lock-ups at Elm Drive/Spruce Avenue and Maple Drive within Johnstone Castle.

In August the council’s Housing and Community Safety Policy Board agreed to move ahead with the regeneration plans after a report showed that 87% of those spoken to were in favour.

Councillor Tommy Williams, Convener of the Housing and Community Safety Policy Board, said: “These plans to demolish low demand tenements in Johnstone Castle and replace them with modern, family homes have had a really positive response so far. We are now moving ahead with the regeneration strategy and as part of that we need to make sure we offer all of those affected suitable alternative accommodation before the work gets underway. Due to the number of households involved this will be a complicated process so that is why it’s really important that we speak to each of those affected to ensure we have all of their information when we are pulling together plans.”

Tenants living at the properties affected are invited to one of the following advice surgeries:
· Monday 22 September – 1.30pm – 4.30pm
· Tuesday 23 September – 1.30pm – 6pm
· Wednesday 24 September – 1.30pm – 4.30pm
· Wednesday 8 October – 1.30pm – 6pm
· Thursday 9 October – 1.30pm – 4pm
· Friday 10 October – 1.30pm – 4.30pm
