Four establishments are honoured with food safety awards

Four Renfrewshire establishments have been honoured with a prestigious national hygiene award from Renfrewshire Council.

The Erskine Home in Bishopton, Erskine Mains Home in Erskine, Capability Scotland’s Wallace Court in Elderslie and KibbleWorks in Paisley have all been presented with the Eat Safe award.

The Eat Safe scheme is run by the Food Standards Agency and aims to recognise excellence in food hygiene and food safety management.

Consumers can be assured that the food served in awarded premises is prepared with the utmost care.

Councillor Eddie Devine, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Environment Policy Board, said, “To be recognised with the Eat Safe award is a great achievement and I am sure all involved will take pride in this recognition.

“The scheme is a great way for premises to inform the public that their food has been prepared to the highest standards. Each of these premises can now proudly display a certificate showing that they have met these standards.

“Food safety is as much a vital part of a business as customer service is, and it is great that more local catering establishments are raising the bar.”

Eileen Cummings, Kibble’s Head of Education and Young Training, said, “We have high expectations of the young people working at KibbleWorks, and they are supported and supervised at all times by qualified staff.

“These same high standards are applied to the social enterprises. A social enterprise is just like any other business, where quality, service and customer care are paramount.

KibbleWorks serves the local community and we are pleased to contribute to the economic, environmental and social fabric of Paisley and Renfrewshire.”

Erskine Head Chef John Booth said, “At Erskine, the welfare of our residents is paramount, and where food safety is concerned, we always try to ensure that our practices go beyond those required by law.

“Our catering team work hard each day to ensure our high standards are met, and while our job satisfaction comes from looking after our residents well, it is always an honour to receive recognition for our efforts.”

Michael Jones, Head Chef at Erskine Mains Home, said, “This award is due to the dedication of my team here in Erskine Mains so I would like to congratulate them as they work consistently to achieve the high standard we have here at Erskine Mains and throughout the organisation of Erskine.”

Charlie McMillan, Capability Scotland Director of Services and Development, said, “This award is a fantastic achievement for the catering team at Capability Scotland’s Wallace Court. Food safety is always at the forefront of our team’s minds when preparing healthy meals for the people who use the service. It is good to see this being recognised externally by this award.”

Eligible establishments are assessed for the Eat Safe award as part of scheduled food hygiene inspections carried out by council food enforcement officers.

Since the Eat Safe scheme launched in Scotland in 2005, more than 1,000 establishments have been recognised.
