LEGIONNAIRE’S DISEASE UPDATE – ISSUED ON BEHALF OF NHS GREATER GLASGOW AND CLYDE
The latest Outbreak Control Team meeting has confirmed that there have been no further cases of Legionnaire’s Disease linked to the Renfrew area.
The total number of people affected remains at eleven.
It has also been confirmed that the eleventh patient has been discharged from hospital and that all those affected have either recovered or are now recovering at home.
Dr Eleanor Anderson, NHSGGC Consultant in Public Health Medicine and OCT Chair, said “I am pleased that there have been no further cases for four weeks. A number of the people affected have experienced more severe symptoms, whilst the others have had a milder form of the disease. There are now no patients receiving hospital treatment and all those affected have either recovered or are recovering at home.
“Our comprehensive investigations are continuing and I would like to thank Renfrewshire Council, the Health and Safety Executive and Health Protection Scotland for their ongoing work in seeking to identify a source.
“We have notified all community GPs and our frontline hospital teams to keep this outbreak uppermost in their minds when dealing with patients displaying symptoms of headache, fever, dry cough, breathing difficulties, stomach pains and diarrhoea. Anyone currently displaying these symptoms should contact NHS 24 on 08454 24 24 24 or their own GP.”
