Davie puts his running shoes on for a special cause

Sunday 25th August will see Paisley’s own Davie the Barber swapping his clippers for running shoes when he runs in the Paisley 10k for a very special cause – Paisley’s Special Care Baby Unit.

Davie’s heart was touched by the story of little Mason Martin McCaig.

Mason was born 27th October 2012 at only 23 weeks + 5 days into the pregnancy; he weighed only 1lb 2 oz (which is approx the same as half a bag of sugar) at birth… Mason was classed as a micro premmie… The survival rate for premature babies is 23 weeks so even if he had been born at 22 weeks 6 days the paediatricians would not have resuscitated him.  All premature babies have some degree of chronic lung disease. Mason was at the top end of chronic.  He fought so many critical times and he always bounced back. Mason put on 12lbs in the 8 months he fought to stay with his family. Tragically little Mason’s body couldn’t fight any longer and he passed away at 8 months old.

The team at www.Paisley.org.uk had their hearts touch by this little boy’s determination and the courage of his family and are supporting Davie the Barber by donating £50 to help in his attempts to raise money for the SCBU in Paisley.

Anyone wishing to donate can pop into Davie the Barbers on Causeyside Street, you can also contact him through his facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/davie.thebarber..

This isn’t the first time that paisley.org.uk has helped support the Special Care Baby Unit. Brian McGuire who won the Renfrewshire Provost Awards in 2008 donated the awarded money to SCBU on behalf of the community website and its volunteers.
