Provost’s thanks after charity abseil

Renfrewshire’s Provost Anne Hall has thanked ‘everyone who contributed’ to the success of a charity abseil in Paisley.

Provost Hall joined Renfrewshire Council chief executive David Martin and 20 volunteers  who abseiled from the roof of the council’s HQ in Cotton Street, Paisley, on Saturday. (May 25)

The event launched a new charity-giving scheme to support four local charities chosen by Provost Hall.

The charities – Renfrewshire Carers’ Centre, RAMH (Recovery Across Mental Health) and two hospices, Accord and St Vincent’s – will share equally in donations received over the Provost’s term in office.

Well-wishers, families and friends gathered to support the abseilers – many of who were dressed as superheroes including Batman, Superman and the Black Widow from The Avengers.

“There are always so many people to thank on an occasion such as this – particularly when the event launched a new charity-giving scheme for Renfrewshire,” said Provost Hall.

“The abseilers all did themselves proud and I’m sure their sponsors will reflect that in their support.

“We also got a lot of support in kind.

Civil Defence Scotland (CDS), a registered charity which provides a volunteer national emergency response team, were tremendous in guiding us through the preparations and organising everything to do with the abseiling.

“Gus Michael of Pulse 98.4FM hosted the event with typical aplomb.

“Irwin Stringfellow of Funtime Carnivals donated free the use of the inflatable slide and beat the goalie.

“The profits from the mobile kiosk operated by the council’s Community Services will also be donated to our fundraising as will the funds raised from charity stalls.

“I’d like to remind people that can they can support this joint charitable venture for Renfrewshire anytime – it doesn’t necessarily have to be a sponsorship contribution for the abseil.”

Donations can be made direct to the collective charity fund online or in bank branches using Account Number: 20041937

Sort code: 82-54-04.  Further information on the scheme is available at www.renfrewshire.gov.uk/provostcharities

“The abseil proved a very encouraging start to this joint fund-raining approach and I look forward to more people getting involved in the months and years ahead.”
