A Facebook appeal and sponsored walk has raised a fantastic total of £713 for Macmillan Cancer Support, and on Wednesday Irene and Ian McDonald presented the cheque to April Andrews from Macmillan.

Irene explains how the money was raised:

‘Our sponsored walk was held at Barshaw Park on 8th April 2012 at 1pm. The bad weather put a lot of people off coming to the event, but we carried on regardless.

After the walk we had raffle prizes and we also had a stall where we sold items which people donated.

At the end of the day two young people came up to me and handed me £40. This was a PERFECT end to the day. I would personally like to thank Amy Gray and Sean Kelly for this donation, thank you Amy and Sean, that was a lovely thing to do and we very much appreciated it.

We would also like to thank everyone who helped with this event and everyone who donated items for us to sell, also the people who gave us sponsor/donation money, and the local companies which donated items for this fantastic cause.

As this event was set up through my website  https://www.facebook.com/groups/facebay.free.paisley/ and was a big success with over 1000 members, we have now set up another website which helps other fantastic charities: Macmillan Cancer Support, Cot Deaths and Miscarriages, RAH Children’s Ward and the PDSA which are all great charities and need help raising money.

This site is https://www.facebook.com/groups/FacebayFundraising/  EVERYONE is welcome to join and put unwanted goods or items that they no longer need on the site. Every penny raised goes to the charities.

This site is doing great but we would like more people to join and donate to these fantastic charities, please help this be a massive success.

This is how the site works:  People donate their unwanted or items they no-longer need on the site, then the people who want the items pay a small donation for charity.

We have started off with Macmillan Cancer Support and every 3 months we will change to one of the other charities, so this gives each charity a fair chance.

We have a Just Giving page set up for people who want to pay for their items in that way – this makes even more money if you are a tax-payer as Gift Aid gives 25% on top of the sum donated.  Also everyone is welcome to make a donation, no matter how small or large on the page as it’s for a really good cause.

Thank you to everyone who helped and supported us to raise this amount of money, it was fantastic!

THANK YOU!’
