An exhibition and public meeting are being held to showcase final designs for improvements to the environment of Paisley town centre.

The exhibition will feature proposals to resurface and widen pavements, and install new crossing points and street furniture.

The proposals are centred on the Causeyside area of Paisley Town Centre Conservation Area.

The WRVS Cafe, Unit 37, Paisley Centre, 20 Causeyside Street will host both the exhibition and the public meeting. The exhibition takes place from 10am to 5pm each day from Monday 3 to Thursday 6 October.

The public meeting will be held between 6.15 and 8pm on Thursday 6 October. Representatives of Renfrewshire Council and consultants Ironside Farrar will give a detailed presentation and answer questions.

The plans are part of the Paisley Town Centre Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) which has been supported by Renfrewshire Council, Paisley Vision Board and £1.5million from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Councillor Iain Nicolson, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Planning and Economic Development Policy Board, said: “There’s been a lot of consultation and hard work to get the proposals to this stage.

“This is an important project which will help regenerate an area at the heart of Paisley town centre.

“Upgrading the public spaces in Causeyside Street will make the area a more pleasant place to live and work in and visit.

“I’d encourage residents, businesses and visitors to come along to the exhibition and public meeting and learn more about the final designs.”

It’s hoped that a planning application for the programme of improvements will be submitted later this year with works potentially starting in summer 2012.
