New Mobile Office To Tackle Anti-Social Behaviour

Residents suffering problems with anti-social behaviour and vandalism now have a new way to get help.

Renfrewshire Council have launched a new mobile office which will be used by the anti-social behaviour investigation team (ASIST) and housing service to provide additional support to people in their own communities.

Councillor Brian Lawson, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Housing and Community Safety Policy Board, said: “Things like recurring vandalism, graffiti and anti-social behaviour can have a real negative impact on communities but sometimes it can be difficult to speak up or to know who to talk to. The Council’s ASIST team work very closely with local residents and other organisations, including the police, to tackle these issues and improve our communities. However, they cannot help if things aren’t reported to them.

“The new mobile office is a great facility which will make it even easier for people to speak to ASIST about any issues affecting them or their community. By bringing the office to people’s front door we aim to encourage more people to use the support offered by ASIST and the Housing service.”

The mobile office is initially being launched as part of the Festive Safety Campaign, run by the Safer and Stronger Renfrewshire Partnership which brings together a number of local organisations to improve community safety in Renfrewshire.

The mobile office will go out over the coming months to various locations and in the lead up to Christmas ASIST will be focusing in particular on youth disorder and antisocial behaviour.

Councillor Lawson added: “Unfortunately the festive season can see an increase in youth disorder and anti-social behaviour. The mobile office is one of a wide range of initiatives we are running to make this Christmas safer than ever.”

The mobile office will be on Braehead Road, Glenburn, on Thursday 10 December and Wednesday 16 December, between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.

Issues can also be reported at any of the Council’s customer contact points and centre or by calling the Anti-Social Behaviour freephone helpline on 0800 169 1283 which is available everyday from 9am to 10pm.
Alternatively you can contact ASIST direct on 0141 840 2163 during normal office hours.
